OSU's Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals
What are the Sustainable Development Goals?
The UN Sustainable Development Goals are a universal call for action that unites nearly 200 countries around the globe.
It was the product of a process that encompassed three years of community consultation and included 8 million people’s involvement in the discussion of the most crucial matters in their communities and the planet. The community consultation raised over three hundred issues, and the 17 goals were hammered out as the result of that global discussion. The SDGs are a universal agenda, and comprise both international and domestic initiatives.

Why are the SDGs Important?
How are the SDGs relevant to the US and Oklahoma?
The SDGs create a common space and an opportunity for advocates and organizations at local, regional, national, and international levels to focus and engage in various policies and work collaboratively to achieve maximum impact. Our common humanity encounters many obstacles and barriers that are shared, interconnected, and increasingly not confined by national or state boundaries.
How Does OSU Engage with the SDGs?
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 call for a sustainable future through global partnership. Although it is not specifically designed for higher education, there is no doubt that higher education plays a vital role in this process.
Oklahoma State University is committed to contributing to this global agenda. OSU firmly believes that one of our roles as a land-grant institution is to educate the next generation to carry forward a globally sustainable future. Recently, the School of Global Studies and Partnerships has adopted the UN SDGs as our framework for global partnerships and key initiatives. We will align the UN’s SDGs with our partnership activities, and we will seek to build both student mobility and global research collaborations around the SDGs in advancing our land-grant mission. OSU faculty has contributed to advance the SDGs through their research and teaching. All 17 SDGs can be mapped through courses, degree programs, research and outreach efforts at OSU. Those mappings allow us to understand our current efforts and identify future opportunities for enhancement.
