Religious Diversity

Students seeking more understanding or connectedness with their religion have many program options available to them. However, despite being the same religion or in a similar sect, those who live in other countries may follow a completely different set of beliefs, tenets, and customs than what you are used to. Students are sometimes shocked to discover that their religion is celebrated or valued differently abroad than at home.

Students traveling to countries where their religion is different than the majority group of their host country have a fantastic opportunity to learn about other belief systems and share their faith. However, religious persecution still occurs in some countries, so it is important to research tolerance, considerations, and potential places of worship prior to departure.

As part of your study abroad experience, your beliefs or the way you view your faith may change. Be prepared to gain a new perspective on your faith and the faith of others.
