China Programs Leadership Development Program

What is the China Programs Leadership Development Program?

Available to Chinese students studying at OSU, the China Program Leadership Development Program is a series of lectures and activities to facilitate students' understanding and improve their individual leadership style. The program will help students recognize their capacity to lead in all areas of their life.

  • Strengthen your public-speaking skills
  • Refine your listening and problem-solving skills
  • Expand your ability to work with diverse groups
  • Explore the leadership challenges associated with complex social issues
  • Understand how to work with others and make a difference in the community
  • Understand and appreciate cultural difference

Requirements for certificate completion: 

Students are required to attend and complete all the workshops and activities to receive the Leadership Development certificate. It is a great credential to list on your resume!

Required activities include:

  • Half-Day Leadership Workshop 

    • This workshop will allow you to understand and enhance the leadership skills necessary for both personal and professional growth. You will learn more about your leadership style and how to effectively maximize your strengths. 
      • Date: Saturday, Sept. 14
      • Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (Lunch will be provided)

  • Group Presentations with the President Leadership Council (PLC) Students

    • You are required to conduct a presentation on solutions for U.S. – China Relations 20 years from now in small groups withe students from the President Leadership Council (PLC). The presentation will be 15-20 minutes in length. This is a group presentation, and you will be divided into teams of 3-4 students during a social hour on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The final group presentations will be Oct. 1.

  • Volunteer Activities (select one activity to attend on the application form)

    • Volunteer activities provide an opportunity to work with others and serve the Stillwater community to make a difference. Students need to choose from one of the three volunteer opportunities listed below.
      • Oklahoma WONDERtorium
        • Date: Saturday, Sept. 21
        • Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
        • Location: Oklahoma WONDERtorium, Stillwater, OK
      • OSU Study Abroad Day
        • Date: Thursday, Sept. 26 
        • Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
        • Location: Engineering South Lawn
      • International Expo
        • Date: Wednesday, Oct. 2
        • Time: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
        • Location: International Mall Lawn (North of the Edmon Low Library)

  • Cultural Enrichment Activities – including an OKC Thunder game!

    • Students will travel to Oklahoma City for a half-day of cultural activities, including tours of the City and to see an OKC Thunder basketball game. Transportation will be provided.
      • Date: Saturday, Oct. 27, 2019
      • Departure time: 11 a.m.
      • Game Time: 2:30 p.m.
      • Return time: 5 p.m. (estimated)
      • Game: OKC Thunder vs. Golden State Warriors

Eligibility to Apply:

  • You must be a full-time student at OSU.
  • You must be in good academic standing.
